Key achievements
The major achievements of the project in terms of using e-science to advance bioinformatics are:
- The development of the DASTY front end to provide a web-based integrated front end to the different proteome annotation databases.
- The application of JYDE to annotate 32,000 unique protein sequences in the human genome within one day accessing 500 nodes at UCL and Imperial.
For protein bioinformatics, additional achievements are:
- The component structure based annotation databases at Imperial and UCL have been developed and enhanced and each includes annotations for over 200 proteomes. These database are:
- The following functional annotation resources have been developed at the EBI:
For e-science, additional achievements are:
- The demonstration of inter-site distributed computing for proteome annotation using the JYDE software developed at UCL.
- The development of the ICENI protocol (at Imperial) for capture the workflow of the proteome annotation pipeline and map it to multiple Grid resources, providing the capability of true resource brokering.
